of their pill supplements. The cost is $99.95. At a quick glance, we love the fact that ZenMed doesn’t use Benzoyl Peroxide, and they are all natural, but the down side is that the product didn’t work very well, and that the pills provided no direct benefit to immediately improving the acne condition of your skin.
We looked up the ingredients of the pills they give you. The ingredients are all herbs or extracts that you can get in any health food store for PENNIES on the dollar. They’re just “cleansing” type of ingredients. In our opinion, the supplements they include in their Derma Cleanse System are just a way to build up the appearance that there is some “big value” to consumers when they buy. We took a look at the price of the Cleanser and the Acne Gel by themselves, and at $15.99 and $24.99 respectively, it really makes you realize that the pills are the big profit margin creator for ZenMed. Sadly, as far as effectiveness of the pills is concerned, we noticed no improvement of the skin, and it STINGS US to have paid $60 for pills that do nothing.
Moving on to the Cleansing Gel that is included in this treatment: The ingredients are nice. All natural and many have the properties of calming the skin and evening skin tone. Vitamin C, Vitamin B5, Allointin, and Aloe Vera are all great for calming and evening out the skin. However, they are also very commonly found in regular old facial cleansers that are not claiming themselves to be especially made for acne treatment.
As far as the Acne Gel is concerned: The ingredient that is the “key” to treating acne in this product is Salicylic Acid at 2.0%. Salicylic acid is good in that it has fewer side effects than harsh chemicals. It is an “alpha hydroxy” acid which are very common in over the counter treatments of skin. This ingredient is good for the treatment of NON-inflamed acne. So, if you’re acne is INFLAMED, RED, OR IRRITATED, THIS INGREDIENT IS NOT GOOD TO USE. It can actually make the irritation worse and increase the redness and even dry out and cause flakes to the skin.
Overall, we liked the ZenMed product as far as the all natural, gentle approach they take. However, we did feel the cost is pretty high for their Derma Cleanse System, and especially when most of the ingredients are not made especially for acne, but are rather quite common in regular old facial cleansers. We think the pills can be totally skipped, or replaced by supplements from your local GNC, at a fraction of the cost. The only other warning is that if your acne is really inflamed or red, the Salicylic acid might make it worse.
